Romanian Poetry Celebration at the European Poetry Festival

✨ Romanian poetry took centre stage at this year's European Poetry Festival and, for the very first time in the festival's history, it had a dedicated night.
The concluding event at the 9th festival edition, the evening brought together a full house of festival friends, writers, artists, literature lovers and members of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London community for a dynamic and playful night of live literature.
Representing Romania, Simona Nastac, Chris Tănăsescu (MARGENTO), Luminita Amarie and Miruna Fulgeanu – poets belonging to the Romanian literary diaspora in the UK and Ireland – were joined by Livia Franchini, Nick Murray, Tony White and Andra Simons to create and perform brand-new collaborative works written especially for the festival. From experimental performance poetry to a striking reimagining of a well-known Romanian fairytale – ‘The Story of Harap-Alb’, the evening showcased the vitality, boldness and international reach of Romanian poetry today.
The programme also included poets Katarína Krupičková & SJ Fowler, Yekta & Matt Martin, Eleanor Wilders & Annabel Taylor-Munt, and Edward Adonteng & Victor Rees, whose brilliant performances framed the evening within a vibrant European programme while placing Romanian poetry at the heart of an exciting international conversation. Hosted at The Poetry Cafe, the iconic venue of The Poetry Society in the heart of Covent Garden, the event provided the perfect setting for this landmark celebration.
A huge thank you to all the featured poets for the incredible creative energy they brought to the stage, and to everyone who joined us and made this premiere such a memorable celebration.
