The Taming of the Shrew Presented at the RCI in Celebration of Shakespeare's Legacy

Celebrating Shakespeare’s birthday in the most inspiring way last week at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London. ✨

In front of a full house, undeterred even by the London tube strike, we experienced a bold, contemporary staging of “The Taming of the Shrew”, brought to life by a remarkable cast of London-based Romanian actors: Alin Balascan, Maria Alexe, Halima Habil and Eddie Pop. This thought-provoking adaptation, presented in collaboration with Ariadne Theatre & Lab, invited us to reflect on power, identity, and connection in today’s world of curated realities and shifting perspectives.

Following the performance, RCI London director Aura Woodward warmly thanked the creative team, the talented actors and director Ema Nicola, for an engaging and nuanced interpretation that sparked both dialogue and introspection. The audience was also invited to stay connected with the Institute’s upcoming events, continuing this vibrant cultural journey.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making this evening so memorable - from the performers and creative team to the wonderful audience who filled the room with energy and openness. Here’s to theatre that challenges, connects, and stays with us long after the final bow! 🎭

And many thanks to Alex Coman for the fantastic photos!
