On 1 March, the Romanian Cultural Institute in London marked the beginning of spring with a dedicated Mărțișor workshop for children, celebrating one of Romania’s most cherished traditions, inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
Organised in partnership with the Embassy of Romania to the United Kingdom/ Ambasada României în Regatul Unit al Marii Britanii şi Irlandei de Nord and Ambasada Republicii Moldova în Marea Britanie/Embassy of Moldova to the UK, the event brought together families who explored the symbolism of the red and white thread — a sign of renewal, hope and new beginnings — while crafting their own mărțișoare.
The workshop took place in the presence of ambassador Laura Popescu, ambassador Ruslan Bolbocean and RCI London director Aura Woodward.
We extend our sincere thanks to the teachers of the Romanian Language, Culture and Civilisation (LCCR) course in UK public schools, organised by the Institutul Limbii Române — Alice Năstase-Buciuta, Anda Vahnovan, Ana Stanca and Lelioara Cioriia — as well as to all those who joined us for this special occasion.
O primăvară frumoasă tuturor!
