European Day of Languages 2025

 A vibrant celebration of European languages!

Yesterday, we were delighted to celebrate the European Day of Languages at Smith Square Hall, alongside our colleagues from EUNIC London – a vibrant network of EU member state cultural institutes and embassies, as well as the EU Delegation to the UK/ European Union in the UK and the European Parliament Liaison Office in the UK/ European Parliament in the UK.


Throughout the afternoon, visitors explored stalls hosted by embassies, cultural institutes, and diaspora schools, discovering a rich tapestry of languages, learning resources, and cultural insights, all promoting the joy and value of multilingualism across Europe.

Romania’s stand, set up by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and the Romanian Embassy/ Ambasada României în Regatul Unit al Marii Britanii şi Irlandei de Nord, attracted a large number of visitors – British and foreign secondary school and university students, as well as a general audience. We were honoured by the presence of Romanian ambassador Laura Popescu, who actively engaged with attendees, highlighting Romania’s commitment to cultural exchange and multilingual education. joyfully returning to St John’s Smith Square to celebrate the European Day of Languages. Stalls hosted by EU member state embassies, cultural institutes, and diaspora schools offered learning materials and insights into various languages and cultures, encouraging foreign language learning and showcasing the importance of language learning across Europe.


The day concluded with an inspiring address by H.E. Pedro Serrano, Ambassador of the European Union to the United Kingdom, underlining the power of languages in building bridges between people and nations.
