The Romanian Cultural Institute in London celebrated Brâncuși Day with a fantastic event dedicated to the great Romanian sculptor and the recent UNESCO listing of his sculptural ensemble in Târgu Jiu.

The evening began with a welcome address from RCI London director Aura Woodward, followed by an insightful conversation that presented various British perspectives on the art and legacy of Romania's renowned artist. Bringing together visual artist David Ward and writer and curator Sam Cornish, the panel discussion was moderated by Brâncuși expert Jonathan Vernon.

In continuation of the event, Dr. Adrian Tudor, Vice Mayor of Târgu Jiu, spoke about Brâncuși's outstanding contribution to the world's sculptural and architectural heritage. The audience was then invited to the institute's gallery for the opening of a photographic exhibition featuring rare archive images with the famed sculptural ensemble and the building of the Endless Column. These were mirrored by recent photographs taken right after the UNESCO inscription by London-based photographer Alexandru Radu Popescu.

Many thanks to our guest speakers, partners and enthusiastic audience! We were happy to be joined by H.E. Mrs. Laura Popescu, Romania’s Ambassador to the UK, together with members of London’s artistic community, Romanian community and British art lovers alike.

Organised in partnership with the Târgu Jiu City Hall and the Constantin Brâncuși Centre for Research, Documentation and Promotion, the exhibition can be visited at 1 Belgrave Square until 4 March, Mon-Fri between 10 am and 4 pm.
