On Sunday, the Romanian Cultural Institute in London opened its doors for a special event celebrating Romanian creativity and sustainable innovation in textile design, as part of the inaugural London Textile Month.
The focus of the afternoon was “Jasmine Is a Lie”, the striking new collection by designer Andra Clițan (founder of MA RA MI), crafted with natural yarns from Wovenbeyond - a British farm-to-fashion company led by entrepreneur Gloria Mazzer. Deeply rooted in heritage and regeneration, the collection comprises ten sculptural outfits that reflect the transformative power of fashion when it respects both the earth and ancestral craftsmanship.
Also included in the programme of Open House London (Open City), the event featured an inspiring conversation between Andra Clițan and Gloria Mazzer, who shared insights into memory, ritual, sustainability and intercultural dialogue in design. The talk was preceded by a welcome address from RCI London director Aura Woodward and warmly received by a diverse audience that included artists, designers, cultural professionals, and cherished friends of the Institute—old and new.
Throughout the whole day, the exhibited outfits drew admiration from all present, with the mannequins showcasing Andra Clițan’s bold and poetic vision. We were especially delighted to welcome, among our guests, the founder and director of Selvedge Magazine Polly Leonard, the organiser of London Textile Month - a celebration of cloth, craft and culture across the British capital.
Many thanks to Andra Clițan and Gloria Mazzer for a truly inspiring afternoon, to Alex Coman for the lovely shots, and to everyone who joined us!
