About the event

The Dacians, ancestors of the Romanians, came to Britain nearly two thousand years ago to help build and defend Hadrian’s Wall. Back then, both Dacia, what is now Romania, and Britannia were part of the Roman Empire. The Romanian Cultural Institute in London is delighted to join forces with writer and historian Bronwen Riley to explore these historical connections and place them within the context of the current Romanian community in the UK.

Over one million Romanians are living in the UK. We will celebrate our shared history through a series of events which take place over the next few months in Carlisle, Manchester and London. Watch this space for updated information on the future legs of this exceptional project!

The opening event of the Carlisle exhibition will take place in the Fratry Hall of the Cathedral from 5 pm to 8 pm with speeches at 6:30 pm. In the presence of HE Laura Popescu, the Ambassador of Romania to the UK, Aura Woodward, the Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute in London and Brownen Riley, historian and writer, the project's initiator.

Please RSVP for this event HERE. The entrance is free and the exhibition will be open for visits until 26 March at 6 pm with no booking necessary.
