The Performance: When Poetry Steps Off the Page

Join us for an evening celebrating The Performance, the new poetry collection by Romanian poet and translator Peter Sragher, freshly published in the UK by Mycelium Press. More than a conventional book launch, the event brings together poetry, conversation and live performance to explore what happens when words are spoken, translated, sung and shared.

Sragher will be joined in conversation by British poet, playwright and editor Andy Willoughby, as well as Greek-Cypriot actress and singer Elena Hadjiafxendi. Together, they will explore poetry across languages and artistic forms: from the printed to the spoken word, from translation to song, and from individual expression to creative collaboration.

The collaboration grew from Peter Sragher’s meeting with Elena Hadjiafxendi at the International Festival of Larnaca, and his subsequent writing inspired by Cyprus. The evening will also include live performances by the two creatives, as well as a selection of poems inspired by Andy Willoughby’s…
