About the event
One of the greatest names of Romanian culture, acclaimed author and historian of religion Mircea Eliade is the focus of our literary programme for the month of May. To celebrate the release of “Time, Death, and the Unspeakable Secret”, the third Eliade volume in English translation, hot off the press from Istros Books, we invite you to join us for an evening of insight and inspiration in the company of distinguished guests.
Original and encyclopaedic, Mircea Eliade was one of the most influential academics and literary figures in interwar Romania, before becoming the revered international scholar who reached world fame. Our special event will see Professors Bryan Rennie and Robert Temple, joined by editor Susan Curtis, reflect on Eliade’s cultural legacy and contemporary relevance. Chaired by journalist George Stănică, the conversation will be complemented by an exhibition of rare Eliade books from Robert Temple’s private collection, including first signed editions from the 1930-40s.
