About the event

The final event of Romania's programme at LBF 2026 is dedicated to Istros Books, the British independent publisher with the most significant contribution to promoting Romanian literature in the UK, marking its 15th anniversary. Susan Curtis, founder and director of Istros Books, will present the Romanian titles published by the press, with special focus on the works of Ludovic Bruckstein. The discussion will introduce Maybe Even Happiness, the latest Istros title translated by Alistair Ian Blyth, in the presence of Alfred Bruckstein, the author’s son and illustrator of the book, joined by author and academic Vesna Goldsworthy.

The event also celebrates 20 years of the Romanian Cultural Institute’s Translation and Publication Support Programme, reaffirming the Romanian Cultural Institute’s commitment to supporting the international circulation of Romanian literature and opening new opportunities for collaboration with British publishers. The evening will conclude with a wine reception.
