About the event
British Council Romania and the Romanian Cultural Institute in London are excited to present to UK audiences Circular Catalysts, a documentary photography exhibition exploring themes of sustainability, craft, contemporary design, and local heritage.
The exhibition features objects, texts, sound and a photographic documentary by Ioana Cîrlig, generated during five residencies where contemporary UK craftspeople were hosted by local organisations working with traditional craftspeople in rural Romania and will be opened until November 19 between 11 AM and 5 PM.
The collaborative and interdisciplinary residencies took place in the spring of 2023 and are part of a programme initiated by the British Council Romania and supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
The third day of the public events programme features a botanical print workshop by Pro Patrimonio and Anoushka Cole. The workshop will teach hammer-printing techniques on textiles and paper, test out the block-printing method with linoleum pads and how to obtain natural textile colours.
Anoushka Cole | researcher and materials maker with a focus on organic resources and waste reduction.
Pro Patrimonio Foundation | supports the idea that heritage is the responsibility of every citizen and a formative element of social identity. In the Foundation's view, tradition is not a set of rigid values, it teaches us to learn about our own identity and the culture that has shaped us, forms us in the present and urges us to think critically, adapted in a balanced and practical way to contemporary life.
